The year 2020 was by far a year that will be remembered in history. Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, life as we knew it did not exist anymore. However, some good came out of 2020.

There have been many stories of how we survived and managed to overcome the unthinkable. Although there were many disturbing twists of life and fate, happiness did prevail.

During our monthly office Zoom meeting, we spoke about unity and looking forward to everyone being back in the workplace. We discussed how there was no comparison to being physically together with one another and connecting and feeling the positive energy from one another. Today, we truly felt the positivity of connection and sharing.

As you may know, some people are slowly coming back to work physically in the office. This morning we had the pleasure of talking to one FAS team member in casual conversation, continuing to get to know each other a little more. Aside from the usual “good mornings” or lunch breaks, today was different than our typical conversations.

This team member began telling us about a vacation that she was so excited to go on with her older sister.

The story began during the start of COVID when she received an email from Jet Blue. It said there was a contest regarding individuals in the medical field who have overcome challenges throughout their lives. Jet Blue wanted individuals to submit their stories in order to win a trip to a location of their choice. Upon seeing that email several times, it was the last day for submission to enter. She began writing the story of her older sister and how her sister overcame some traumatic hardships.

Her sister was widowed at a young age and left to raise five children on her own. Once her children were grown, she found the courage at age 50 to put herself back into college and obtain a degree in nursing.

Jet Blue was so touched by her older sister’s story, that they chose her sister to be the winner! Her sister selected a trip to the beautiful, tropical island of Aruba for one week. If that doesn’t remind us of the strength, love, and bond of family, then we don’t know what does.
