At Financial Aid Services (FAS) and Genesis Software, we are known for our industry expertise with decades worth of experience. But how did our experts first begin their journey in the world of Higher Education and Financial Aid?
This month we are hearing from Ryan Boermeester, a Quality Assurance Analyst here at FAS. You can read below to learn about his journey in Financial Aid first started.
I’ve been at FAS for five years now. It all started during the winter of my senior year of college at Westfield State, where I studied Finance and Business management. I had been applying and interviewing for internships since my junior year with very little success, despite my numerous attempts. During the winter break of senior year, I was offered an internship at FAS. I had heard about FAS all my life growing up through Sandi O’Connell, who is a close family friend.
I accepted the internship position that winter in hopes that it would boost my resume and help me find a full-time job following graduation that spring. I carried on through my graduation and into summer, facing the harsh reality of a tough and very competitive job market with little luck. In July 2019, I reached back out to Sandi inquiring about available positions at FAS, and if there was an opening for me. Lucky for me, there was one. So, I rejoined as a Verification Specialist.
At this time, I was only initially planning to stay until I secured a job elsewhere. However, as I returned to FAS, I found myself thoroughly enjoying coming to work each day, as well as loving the atmosphere and people here at FAS. Later in the summer of 2019 I was asked if I would consider a full-time position as a verification specialist, to which my answer was, “absolutely!”
I was able to learn so much in just over three years on the Verification team, and this past summer I was promoted to my current role as a Quality Assurance Analyst – assisting clients with all of their software needs! I could not be happier with where I am!
