Lately I realize how much music helps me escape the World. When I have a good beat in my ears I can focus and think clearer on things I may have been procrastinating. It’s weird, it really isn’t any song or genre that makes the difference., it’s just a good beat. I can go from high anxiety, feeling like I can’t breathe, to letting loose, getting imaginative and just taking some time to breathe and dance a little in my mind.
These past 6 months have been challenging for everyone. For me, it’s definitely the lack of socializing, being with people, getting out of the house, out of the same old routine. For the last 8-10 years I have been on the go all the time. Yes there were struggles with that like not enough time to get errands done, hated cleaning the house, never could make it to the gym, missing my husband, kids and of course, my dog. When I was traveling a lot, it definitely was chaotic to try to fit it all in (family, the dog, house stuff, etc.) but it also gave me happiness, like meeting new people, or people that I only talked to on the phone and leaving them with a good impression, or seeing some of the regulars at each of the conferences (other vendors) and building nice relationships.
Even with the chaos, it also gave me some peace of mind, or ZEN, when I would zone out on the flights to a good movie, or read a good book, or jam out to tunes. It gave me lots of time to reflect on good things in my life and bad. I would struggle with always trying to be perfect when it’s just not possible to always be perfect. The perfect mother, wife, friend, employee. I just try to be the best person I can be.
I always try to take time to take a deep breath and focus on loving myself first then the rest will come naturally. (Lately I’ve pretended the stupid mask is a paper bag that I breathe into). If I truly like myself, I will always be good to others and spread positivity. Sometimes I feel like I was put on this earth to make people happy. So when I do, I feel satisfied.
Often when I’m listening to music I can visualize something great happening, escaping reality and living a fun fantasy like gathering with friends and family, no worries in the world, no pressure, no stresses. As you read this I hope it will help you find a great escape from your life’s stresses.
So now that I’ve opened up about some of my inner struggles, I would love to hear from others and what they do to ESCAPE.

November 16, 2020 at 6:11 pmI escape by getting outside for a bike, hike or run or swim. Sometimes a swim at the gym pool does it too. When you are moving in the wind or water, there is something soothing and freeing that creates the ultimate escape feeling. And yes, sometimes if I add the right music while running or biking, it can create a totally different experience. I can’t wait to get out there tomorrow.

November 17, 2020 at 5:09 amThank you for sharing! For me, stress relief comes in the form of a really good workout. I leave it all in the gym. The other thing I love to do is get lost in a great book. Something about feeling the pages between my fingers and holding the book, it soothes me. Then my mind can get lost in a different world for a bit.
